Please call JayMar Insurance Agency at

Most folks assume that if their hospital or doctor took their insurance before that they will continue to with their new policy, which is not always the case.

Northwell boasts a large award winning hospital system throughout Long Island, New York City, and Westcheter.  If you live in the Huntington area or SW Suffolk in the Bay Shore area, you should know that Huntington Hospital and Southside Hospital are both owned by Nortwell Health.  If you live in an area which only has Nothwell Hospitals, and the providers you use are only affiliated with Northwell, and you require them to be in your network then you should require that whichever insurer you choose have Northwell in their network.  If you do NOT require Northwell to be in your network then you have more options. The only EPO available which includes Northwell is their own carrier, CareConnect. The HMO Affinity is an excellent inexpensive option as well, otherwise there are the more expensive HMO's EmblemHealth, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare.

The major benefit to EPO's is that you do not need referrals to visit a specialist. The HMO's tend to carry higher premiums (aside from Affinity), some with larger networks, and you need referrals from your PCP to visit a specialist.

Stony Brook University Hospital - In 2017, the only carrier that includes Stony Brook University Hospital in their network is EmblemHealth. If the providers you use are only affiliated with Stony Brook and you require that whichever insurer you choose have them in their network, EmblemHealth is your only carrier option at this time.  Unfortunately EmblemHealth does not have a substantial network in Suffolk County. If you are willing to forgo having access to Stony Brook physicians, there are less expensive carriers available, with far better benefits.

Catholic Health Services - A large network of hospitals including Good Samaritan, Mercy Medical Center, St Catherine, St Charles Hospital, St Francis Hospital, and St. Joseph hospital.  If the providers you use are only affiliated with Catholic Health Services and you require that whichever insurer you choose have them in their network Oscar is currently the only EPO on Long Island to offer access to these fantastic award winning hospitals. If you are open to an HMO Affinity offers access to Catholic Health Services of Long Island at a great price point, as as does the most expensive carrier United Healthcare.
